Ancient Iberia

[Bust of a Lady of Eiche (La Alcudia de Eiche) (Alicante, Spain)] 1. Bust of a Lady of Eiche (La Alcudia de Eiche) (Alicante, Spain). Pre-roman Iberian. While clearly a manifestation of the Mediterranean aesthetic, the use of a warm-colored stone adds sensuous appeal. An interest in costume obscures bodily form. Rather than formal beauty and harmony conveying meaning, here the interest is conveyed by tectonic masses. Facial features at the surface of a massive head, are there at the expense of naturalism.
