Gandhara
|

foundation.

Mathura
|
1. Wima Kadphises seated on his throne. Mat, Mathura. His father, Kajula Kadphises, Yabgu (prince) of the
Kuei-Shuang, beat the other four Yabgu to create a unified and enlarged realm by 25 B.C., with the title
of Yavuga. His son, Wima, expanded into Gandhara, but also developed the political and economic institutions,
and so is considered the real founder of the Kushan Empire.

2. Sculpture of Kanishka, standing. The regnal dates of this greatest of the Kushan kings have been
hotly debated, and the traditional 78-144 A.D. dating is no longer accepted.
