Introduction to
Images from World history

Images from World History is a collection of digitalized photographs and maps to support the teaching of history at the upper secondary school and university level.

Most images are copyrighted, and so I rely on "fair use doctrine" to display them for non-profit educational purposes. While you are free to use anything from this site for a similar purpose, please understand that I have no authority to provide copyright release. I do not have access to more information about the images than is included with them.

The core of this collection is a set of slides created decades ago to illustrate the changing aesthetic of the Late Roman Empire and Early Medieval Europe. On this basis I have added scanned images to broaden its scope and make it better suited to pre-modern world history courses. Given my limited time, I cannot expect to achieve depth or balance, but I do hope to strengthen some obvious gaps.

This project was stimulated by someone's request for specific images, and I extend that invitation to you to the extent I can find the material and the time to satisfy your needs.

It would be of help to know that people actually visit these pages and find them rewarding or useful. Your criticism and corrections would be much appreciated, and so please use the mail button at the bottom of the Images from History home page.
